CoCredo's Dan Hancocks and Anthony Surley at Oxford Hospitals Charity

Oxford Hospitals Charity welcomed two of its most dedicated supporters, Dan Hancocks and Anthony Surley, to the Oxford Children’s Hospital.

Between 2010 and 2020, Dan and Anthony raised over £200,000 for the hospital through their charity golf days. This substantial amount has been used to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment, fund crucial research projects, and provide comfort and care to young patients, making a tangible and lasting impact on the hospital.

Dan and Anthony were invited to return to the hospital to view the commemorative plaque that will be installed and to reconnect with familiar faces from the ward that held a special place in their hearts with the chance to reminisce over some tea and cake.

Both men have personal connections to the hospital. Anthony's son was born in 2009 with a rare gastroenterological disease, and Dan's son was born a few months later, requiring major bowel surgery. Their deep gratitude for the care their sons received inspired them to give back by organising annual charity golf days.

The idea for this event was born when Dan and Anthony participated in a charity golf day and felt inspired to organise their own in 2010. With the support of Penny, the charity's events coordinator at the time, and contributions from numerous friends and colleagues, their golf days became a beloved gathering for many. Nathan Swift's engaging auctioneering, Aubergine's PR expertise, and the help of Dan and Anthony's friends, who offered their support whenever possible, attracted golfers who returned year after year.

The generosity of participants and sponsors over the years was extraordinary, with over £200,000 raised for the Children's Hospital. These funds have directly benefited young patients, with funding going towards state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, sensory equipment, paediatric gastroenterology equipment, a parent’s sitting room and our appeal towards helping to build a new 62-bedroom Ronald McDonald facility for families of children under the hospital's care.

Graham Douglas, CEO of Oxford Hospitals Charity, expressed his gratitude: "We are immensely grateful to Dan and Anthony for joining us at the hospital and sharing a memorable afternoon. Seeing Dan's son, daughter, and many ward staff and play specialists was wonderful.
“To this day, Dan and Anthony are still among our highest fundraisers for the charity, and the afternoon felt like a fitting tribute to them. It was also so lovely to welcome back our colleague Penny Hambridge, who did so much to help our Children’s Hospital”

The commemorative plaque will be proudly displayed in the children's hospital, serving as a lasting testament to the incredible contributions made by Dan, Anthony, and their supporters.

Dan Hancocks says: "It was completely unexpected, but this commemorative plaque, I hope, will inspire other parents to ‘give back’ to the hospital in some small gesture of thanks for everything they do in keeping our children safe and well. I am eternally grateful to all the wonderful team that cared for my son, and I know Anthony feels the same way about the care his son received.

The Oxford Hospitals Charity will always have a special place in our hearts, which we will continue to support. We are also fortunate to have friends, family, and colleagues who have supported this wonderful charity through us and hugely contributed to the money we have raised to date, so they deserve as much praise as Anthony and me.

It was extraordinary to celebrate last month with not only familiar faces from the hospital but also having my children with me and my son to be part of this … which is hopefully a legacy that he will continue to support and give thanks for all the care he received over the years."
